From a low point in enrollment following the pandemic from around 650 undergraduates to over a thousand today, the President of Ferrum College says the “blue collar school,” is geared towards people that are often already working and “doing things,” – and several recent announcements are prime examples. The small private Franklin County school will add an engineering degree for the Fall 2027 semester says school President Dr. Mirta Martin, who became the 13th President at Ferrum in 2023, after serving in an interim role before that. Two new master’s programs in education and athletic training will soon be offered as well. Earlier this month Ferrum signed new articulation agreements with Patrick and Henry Community College, for those that want to finish their 4-year criminal justice or teaching education majors.
