An anonymous social media account that spent months targeting Roanoke city leaders with sharp political commentary has been deleted following a WFIR News investigation into its operator.
The complete erasure of the “HiRoanoke” Instagram page caps a swift six-day sequence of events. The timeline began with a high-profile public apology from a city councilman and ended after reporter inquiries were directed to the account’s alleged creator.
Six days of digital fallout
The political firestorm ignited last Tuesday when Councilman Peter Volosin issued a public apology to PTA leader Rebekah Murphy. Volosin had falsely accused Murphy online of secretly running the anonymous account and called her an “idiot” during a public exchange.
Following that apology, a source tipped WFIR News to the page’s likely operator, identifying her as Amber Albaugh—known online as “Amber Raspberry Mayo.”
On Wednesday afternoon, WFIR News reporter Ian Price sent a formal interview request to Albaugh just before 5 p.m. While Albaugh accepted a social media friend request from Price, she provided no comment. Over the weekend, the HiRoanoke Instagram page was completely wiped from the platform.
Evidence hidden in plain sight
While HiRoanoke’s Instagram hub has been deleted, three video recordings remain live on YouTube. These include a May 2026 sit-down interview with Councilman Volosin.
“The DMs are lit. The story count of people watching stories is insanely high,” the anonymous creator boasted during the recording. The creator claimed local followers turned to the page because City Council was misreading community frustration.
Crucially, that same May stream included an explicit disclaimer that directly foreshadowed last week’s political clash. During the broadcast, the page operator explicitly stated that guest co-hosts Rebekah Murphy and a woman named “Sam” were not the owners of HiRoanoke. The operator noted they were brought on merely to offer “more moderate voices.” Despite sitting through that interview months ago, Volosin still conflated Murphy with the page during his recent online outburst.
Monitoring the municipal feed
The removal of the original Instagram page was quickly followed by a new account operating under the handle hiroanoke_.

Initially titled “HiRoanoke is Dead” before being relabeled “HiRoanoke-underscore,” the new page’s creator used the platform to criticize the original account’s tone. The new operator characterized the previous commentary as unnecessarily harsh toward local business owners.
While the original operator of HiRoanoke remains silent, the digital fallout continues to ripple through City Hall. Officials are currently considering a new professionalism committee to govern municipal conduct and social media interactions. It’s one post — at the time of the writing of this article — is below. It’s been censored to match WFIR News standards.
